Religious Leaders Discuss U.S. Assistance
WASHINGTON, DC (April 6, 2004) - Dr. Glenn Palmberg was among other religious leaders who met last week with members of President Bush's administrative staff and Department of State officials to discuss U.S. foreign assistance issues.
Palmberg, president of the Evangelical Covenant Church, is a member of
the board of Alliance to End Hunger, a sub-board of Bread for the World
that arranged the meetings. An accompanying photo shows Palmberg (second
from left) in a meeting with U.S. Sen. Richard Durbin (D-IL). Others are
(from left) Dr. Major L. Jemison, president of the Progressive National
Baptist Convention; Bishop Mark Hanson, presiding bishop of the
Evangelical Lutheran Church in America; and Rev. David Beckmann,
president of Bread for the World.
Other religious leaders who joined in meetings with various officials included Bishop Peter D. Weaver, president-elect of the United Methodist Council of Bishops; Dr. Robert Edgar, general secretary of the National Council of Churches in the USA; Rev. Susan Andrews, moderator of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church-USA; Rt. Rev. Frederick Borsch, retired bishop of Los Angeles of The Episcopal Church USA; Most Rev. John Ricard, bishop of Pensacola-Tallahassee; and Bishop Lawrence Reddick, presiding bishop of the Fifth District Christian Methodist Episcopal.
