Full Text of Dr. F. Burton Nelson Tribute Available

CHICAGO, IL (April 6, 2004) - Numerous requests have been received seeking online publication of the full text of a tribute to the late Dr. F. Burton Nelson, longtime North Park Theological Seminary professor, that was delivered during a March 27 memorial service at North Park Covenant Church.

The tribute was delivered by Dr. Geffrey B. Kelly, a long-time friend who in 2002 co-authored with Nelson Cost of Moral Leadership: The Spirituality of Dietrich Bonhoeffer. Both men are considered scholars on the life and work of the famed anti-Nazi Lutheran pastor who was executed by the Nazis shortly before the end of World War II.

Nelson, who died March 22 at Swedish Covenant Hospital, was a close friend of the Bonhoeffer family. He also served as a consultant for the 90-minute film documentary on Bonhoeffer's life that opened in Chicago in March last year.

Nelson taught at North Park from 1960 until his retirement in 1996. He was serving as Research Professor of Christian Ethics at the seminary at the time of his death.
