Gilliard Part of Radio Interview Tonight
ATLANTA, GA (April 5, 2004) - Deric Gilliard of Commission Disciples Covenant Church in Tucker, Georgia, is being interviewed on the Bev Smith Show tonight at 11:30 p.m. (EST) on WOAK 1380-AM in Atlanta.Gilliard, who resides in Stone Mountain and serves as an intergovernmental affairs specialist for the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services regional office in Atlanta, is being interviewed as part of the station's commemoration of the 40th anniversary of the death of Martin Luther King Jr. He recently published the second edition of Living in the Shadows of a Legend: Unsung Heroes and Sheroes who marched with Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
For more than a year he has discussed his book and the 20 people he profiled as he researched the life of Dr. King and the Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC). In January, he was part of a CNN Sunday Morning television interview called "In the Shadows." It was part of CNN's weekly three-hour news magazine show, hosted by Miles O'Brien and Heidi Collins.
An Atlanta-born journalist and a licensed Covenant pastor, Gilliard has written for USA Today and TIME magazine and served as director for SCLC, which was co-founded by Dr. King in 1957. His wife, Catherine, is the founding pastor of Commission Disciples Covenant Church, a church plant located near Atlanta.
