Constitution Focus of Free Lecture March 17

CHICAGO, IL (March 10, 2004) - Pulitzer Prize-winning author Jack Rakove of Stanford University in California will speak on "Declaring Rights: A Constitutional Dilemma" at North Park University's Anderson Chapel next Wednesday, March 17.

The 7:30 p.m. free lecture is sponsored by North Park's History Department and is part of the Schwan Lecture Series in American History.

Rakove is Coe professor of History and American Studies at Stanford where he also serves as professor of political science. His book, Original Meanings: Politics and Ideas in the Making of the Constitution, won a Pulitzer in 1997. Rakove is also president of the Society for the Study of the Early American Republic and a member of a number of other history related organizations.

The Schwan Lecture Series began earlier this year and was named for John H. Schwan, a 1966 graduate of the school and a First Lieutenant for the U.S. Army Infantry in Vietnam. He and his wife, Beverly, started the series because of their deep commitment to the study of history and the application to society and culture.
