Misdialed Call Connects Pastor with New Family

BETTENDORF, IA (March 2, 2004) - Riversong Covenant Church under pastor Darin Youngs began weekly worship services last Sunday (February 29) at Bettendorf Middle School, the fruit of the labor of a core group of 54 people who have been ministering in the Quad Cities area since last August.

The new church has been supported and encouraged by the Western Illinois District of the Central Conference of the Evangelical Covenant Church, which includes Illinois congregations in Galesburg, Moline, Peoria and Princeton. Fifteen people from Moline's Elim Covenant Church have helped launch the new church plant and participated in a special service of blessing for the new congregation at its church on February 15, according to a recent Elim Covenant newsletter.

After attracting 98 people to its first preview service on December 7, Riversong had 109 in attendance on February 1. The congregation plans on conducting a "launch" service on Easter Sunday, April 11.

Riversong has growth potential due to a base of 400,000 people living in the Quad Cities area bordering Illinois and Iowa on the Mississippi River - the church is located in a town of 30,000 people. Although the growth potential may suggest success on its own accord, the pastor points out that God continues to work in amazing ways, even in the midst of human error.

Youngs says he met one of his current parishioners as the result of a telephone call snafu - he misdialed while calling another Covenant church and reached an unfamiliar family instead. The family believes the misdialed call was no accident, Youngs noted –"they see it as a phone call direct from God."
