Graveside Service Held for Helen Skoglund
ANTIOCH, CA (February 27, 2004) - A gravesite service was held today at Oak View Memorial Park Cemetery for Helen Skoglund, the widow of the late Covenant pastor Donald R. Skoglund.Rev. Gene Davis, a family friend, officiated at the service. Skoglund, who was associated with Hillside Covenant Church in Walnut Creek, died on February 20 of Alzheimer's disease in nearby Concord. She was 81.
Born Sept. 25, 1922 in Seattle, Skoglund graduated from the University of Washington-Seattle and later taught Home Economics at Park Junior High School in Antioch, retiring in 1986. She and her husband served Covenant churches in Antioch and Hayward, California; Sioux Falls, South Dakota; Donaldson, Indiana; Portland, Oregon; Chicago and Seattle. Rev. Skoglund died in 1987.
She enjoyed sewing and shopping with her daughters Chris Mathews and Pam Canada, who lived in Alamo and Orangevale. Other survivors include son Don Skoglund of Pleasant Hill, as well as sister Evelyn Carlson of Mercer Island, Washington, and six grandchildren.
