CWM Hopes to 'Raise the Flag' at Triennial fundraiser
CHICAGO, IL (February 26, 2004) - Covenant Women Ministries (CWM) is trying to turn Triennial XI into an international gathering with its "Raise the Flag" fundraising campaign to help CWM leaders from other countries to attend this summer's gathering of Covenant women in Portland, Oregon.CWM's executive minister Ruth Hill says that the "Raise the Flag" objective is to bring international guests from the Covenant's countries of missionary service to Triennial XI, which will be held at the Doubletree Hotel in Portland August 12-15. Along with attending Triennial representatives would then travel in the sponsoring conference or church region for two weeks.
Thus far, four representatives from overseas countries and regions have
received sponsorship. The Northwest Conference has been working to bring
Ksenia Salmanova (see photo) of Magadan, Russia, to the United States
this summer. Salmanova is a graduate of St. James Bible College, a
school that Hill taught at for a time and which has received support
from Covenant churches and individuals. She has been active in clowning
ministries in Russia while raising a daughter and has begun Arts college
education in order to be a stage manager. Her husband Andrey is manager
for New Life Christian Radio in Magadan.
The Central Conference is also well on their way to raising funds for Dora Landono, the current CWM president in Colombia, and Lucy Mancero of Ecuador is getting sponsorship from the Canada Conference. Sombo Mbuwa of Congo is coming to Triennial with the help of funding from the Southeast and North Pacific conferences.
Others committed to fully sponsoring at least one country representative include the East Coast, Midwest and Pacific Southwest conferences. Faith Covenant Church in Farmington Hills, Michigan, is sponsoring a representative from Taiwan, with help from the Great Lakes Conference, said church representatives Sandie Fleming and Sue Ormond. Other countries and regions in need of sponsors include Argentina, Czech Republic, Mexico, France, Germany, Japan, Kenya, Spain, Burkina Faso and Equatorial Guinea.
