Alaska Player Named to All-Academic Team

CHICAGO, IL (February 5, 2004) - North Park University women's soccer player Katie Rose of Mat-Su Covenant Church in Wasilla, Alaska, was named to the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) All-Academic team for the fall sports season.

Rose, a senior majoring in Advertising, has posted a 3.47 grade-point average on a 4.0 scale during her college career while totaling the eighth highest women's soccer scoring total in school history. She was a captain for this year's team and earned the team's Leadership Award, said coach Erin Leinweber.

"Katie exemplifies a complete student athlete," said Leinweber in nominating Rose for the honor. "She not only excelled on the soccer field, but in the classroom and the community. I am amazed with her activity level in other school organizations during her seasons."

The vice president of North Park's Student Association, Rose has participated in college chapel and choir while serving as a student development assistant and participating in the school's Fellowship of Christian Athletes huddle. Rose is from Palmer, Alaska, having attended Colony High School. Her brother, Jamie, was a starter for the North Park men's soccer team.

North Park also named sophomore linebacker Jonathan Schwan of Crystal Lake, Illinois, to the Academic All-Conference team. Schwan has a 3.84 grade-point average in business and economics. He attended Prairie Ridge High School in Crystal Lake.

Other nominees included men's soccer player Adam Johnson, a junior residing in Hoffman Estates, Illinois, and junior volleyball setter Jennifer Williams of Chicago. Johnson had a 3.75 grade-point average in Pre-Medicine/Biology while Williams has a 3.43 grade point average in Education.

The CCIW is comprised of eight teams and each season each school nominates one male and one female athlete for the All-Academic team, according to conference All-Academic team coordinator and Augustana College sports information director David Wrath. There are also All-Academic teams named for the winter and spring seasons.
