Tulsa Church Conducts First Preview Service

TULSA, OK (January 14, 2004) - Water's Edge Covenant Church, under pastor Greg Coates, conducted its first preview service January 11 at Metro Christian Academy and attracted 91 visitors.

Church planter Greg Coates hopes to target those who have never been involved in church or who have been disillusioned with the church. He said about two dozen of Sunday's audience could be so categorized. Parishioners from nearby Redeemer Covenant Church were also part of the worship experience.

Water's Edge Covenant began its ministry on July 1 and has about 30 people in core group development. Coates, who previously served as Minister of Evangelism of a United Methodist mega church in Tulsa, said that the process of planting a church has given him much for which to be thankful.

"The most exciting part is that we have had people who have come that I thought would be great, but who have left because they weren't unified with the church's vision," said Coates. "But God is building a core that is passionately involved in the church. We're about creating a community that is about loving people into the Kingdom. Our values have become that of loving God and loving each other and releasing servant leaders out into the community. We're excited about doing ministry outside of the area where we celebrate (worship)."

Coates said that the next preview service for Water's Edge Covenant is February 8. He hopes the church can begin weekly services after it hosts its Easter Sunday service. For more information about the church and its ministries, call Coates at 918-808-5959 or email him at WETulsa@wmconnect.com.
