Curt Peterson Sends Email Greeting to Staff
KARAWA, CONGO (November 17, 2003) - Editor's note: the following is an email greeting sent today to World Mission staff by Curt Peterson, executive minister of the Department of World Mission, who is part of the five-member delegation representing the Evangelical Covenant Church. Here Peterson reflects on the first several days of the group's visit to the Democratic Republic of Congo. We are experiencing overwhelming welcomes of grace and hospitality and friendship. Today we visited the seminary in Goyongo and participated in our third worship service where Glenn, Jim and I each preached. The singing is beautiful, the smiles are like bright sunshine and the shouts and cheers of welcome remind us how important this relationship with the Congo Covenant Church (CEUM) really is to the hearts of all of us.
We have an excellent pilot from Mission Aviation Fellowship (MAF) - Dan Carlson - who has been taking us from village to village, landing on the grass runways to crowds of up to 5,000 at Karawa! Official greetings and welcomes abound and sacrificial meals are provided for us with grace and enthusiasm. I look forward to sharing pictures and videos with you all after Thanksgiving.
I am so blessed by the ministry and good news that overflowed from the lives of people like Eileen and Roger Thorpe, David Stockamp, the Hills (Ruth and Brad) and many, many more missionaries. The fruit of the Lord's Spirit of Grace and the faithful service of missionaries is so evident here in the lives of people who have suffered so much in recent years.
As many have said, our lives will not be the same after this visit. Please pray for us to continue to work well as a team - the Lord is doing great things.
