Foundation Sponsors Awards for Sermons on Discipleship

LANSING, MI (October 24, 2003) - The nationally known Amy Foundation is sponsoring the Amy Pastor Awards for pastors who organize a sermon series on the topic "Becoming a Christ-Centered Disciple-Making Church."

Fifteen cash prizes totaling $30,000, including a $10,000 first prize, will be given for a series of 10 sermons based on each of the ten components of Christ-centered disciple making as defined by the Amy Foundation's brochure, "Becoming A Christ Centered, Disciple-Making Church. The definition of a disciple is defined by the Amy Foundation as "an obedient follower of Jesus Christ who is actively engaged in making disciples by teaching obedience to everything Jesus commanded in self, family, congregation and neighborhood."

In addition to content, qualified sermon outlines will be judged on:

  • Persuasive disciple-making power of the outline
  • Pastor's skill in personalizing the need for making disciples in self, family, congregation and neighborhood
  • Pastor's sensitivity in communicating Christ's love as the dominant spiritual power in each of the 10 outlines
  • Clarity, relevance, organization and biblical accuracy
The deadline for entries is June 30, 2004. Winners will be announced on or before September 30, 2004. The Amy Foundation was founded in 1970 by W. Jim Russell, an entrepreneur, and his wife Phyllis of Bretton Woods Covenant Church in Lansing. It sponsors the Amy Writing Awards, which offers cash awards and support materials for those who wish to communicate Biblical views through popular media. The Foundation is named for the Russell family's daughter, Amy.

To submit sermon outlines, call the Amy Foundation at 1-877-727-4262 or email amyfoundtn@aol.com. More information can be found by logging onto www.amyfound.org.
