Vikings Continue On a Roll in Soccer Action

CHICAGO, IL (October 2, 2003) - North Park University (NPU) got some help from a couple of Covenant students as it edged Benedictine University in a 1-0 non-league men's soccer match on Tuesday.

Sophomore Jamie Rose from Mat-Su Covenant Church in Wasilla, Alaska, scored the game's only goal midway through the second half. Freshman Austin Person of First Covenant Church, Omaha, Nebraska, played the second half in goal for the Vikings and preserved the shutout.

Last Saturday, the Vikings beat visiting Illinois Wesleyan 3-1 in a College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) match. Isaac Lee scored two goals against the Titan and was named CCIW Player of the Week for his efforts. Thus far, Lee has totaled four goals and five assists, both team highs.

Adam Johnson, who attended Community Covenant Church, East Bridgewater, Massachusetts, as a youth, added two assists in the Illinois Wesleyan game.

NPU has won four straight contests and is 7-1-2 overall, 2-0 in CCIW play. The Vikings host Concordia University of River Forest, Illinois, in a 3 p.m. non-league game Saturday.
