Eastham (MA) Covenanter Celebrates 100 Years

QUINCY, MA (September 30, 2003) - Covenant Congregational Church's Evelyn Johnson celebrated her 100th birthday recently at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Beverly and Frank Larson, in Eastham.

Johnson, who was born August 25, 1903, moved to Eastham after living in the same home in Quincy, for 75 years. Evelyn has been a widow since 1954 after having married her late husband Berthill in 1925, reported a local newspaper in a recent story. They have two daughters (daughter, Shirley, lives in Florida).

A bookkeeper for a North Quincy firm after her husband died, her company offered her a watch when she retired, but she requested a typewriter instead. She now uses it to write to friends and relatives. Evelyn has plenty of writing to do - she has five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Long life isn't new to Evelyn's family as Evelyn's father lived to age 75 and her mother lived 98 years.
