Triliegi Leads North Park to Double Overtime Victory
CHICAGO, IL (September 9, 2003) - Freshman Andreanna Triliegi scored in double overtime as the North Park University (NPU) women's soccer team edged Lakeland College in Sheboygan, Wisconsin, on Saturday for its first victory of the season. Triliegi is a graduate of Minnehaha Academy in Minneapolis.The women's team then defeated Marian College 1-0 on Sunday in Wisconsin to even its record to 2-2 overall. NPU travels to University of Wisconsin-Whitewater on Sunday for a 12:30 p.m. non league match.
Carly Thomforde (Faith Covenant Church, Burnsville, Minnesota) and Kate Gundersen (Minnehaha Academy) helped the Vikings take a 2-0 halftime lead over Lakeland. After the Muskies tied the game at 2-all, Kate Rose (Mat-Su Covenant Church, Wasilla, Alaska) scored at the 63:00 mark. Lakeland's Megan Wudtke then tied the score at 3-all with a score at the 76:00 mark, setting up Triliegi's overtime heroics.
North Park's men were also 2-0 on the weekend, edging Lakeland 1-0 Saturday on a Matt Moncada goal seven minutes into the game and beating Marian College 3-1 on Sunday thanks to goals by Edin Dautovic, Nick Bruckner (North Park Covenant Church, Chicago, Illinois) and Jon-Erik Johnson (Arvada Covenant Church, Arvada, Colorado).
The Vikings, now 3-0-1 overall, are now fourth in the latest Central Region rankings by the National Soccer Coaches of America. They play at ninth-ranked UW-Whitewater at 3 p.m. Sunday.
