Cary Church Celebrates a Decade of Ministry
CARY, NC (August 27, 2003) - Redeemer Covenant Church celebrated 10 years of
ministry on Sunday with a special morning worship service followed by a
dedication of the land for a proposed facility and an evening picnic.
Ralph Moller, church planter for Redeemer Covenant, returned for the
day's festivities with his wife, Teresa. Using 1 Corinthians 3:5-17, he
and current pastor Vann Trapp spoke at the morning service about the
church's heritage and its hopes for the future,
About 230 people attended the afternoon dedication of the land the
church has purchased for its new facility. They then gathered at the
farm of a parishioner for an all-church picnic. Guests at the event
included Southeast Conference Superintendent Kurt Miericke and Covenant
Executive Vice-president Donn Engebretson.
After seven years of trying to buy a site, the church purchased 7.85
acres of land in May. The chairperson of the land search committee, Don
Slice, collaborated with Rob Hall of the Covenant's Department of Church
Growth and Evangelism to finally secure the deal. The land purchase is
just one of many things that has Trapp enthused about the upcoming year
at Redeemer Covenant. He said that the purchase has confirmed God's
sovereignty over the church's journey in faith.
The church "is at a healthy and strong place right now," said Trapp.
"We've sent a group of people to a church planter's training session
recently to look back at how things were put in place and to
re-launching the church. There's a growing expectation right now for
growth. . . . God has laid out a direction for us for the next year and
people are feeling excited about what this year is going to hold."
Redeemer Covenant Church is located near the Research Triangle near
North Carolina's capital city of Raleigh. It meets at a local YMCA and
has an average worship attendance of 140, said Trapp.
A fledgling youth ministries program has energized the church and
relationships with a pair of parachurch organizations have bolstered
mission and service elements. The congregation is working on plans for a
spring 2004 mission trip to Mexico in cooperation with Merge Ministries.
