Church Seeks Bone Marrow Donor for Young Member
PLEASANT HILL, CA (August 22, 2003) - Hope Center Covenant Church in Northern
California is hoping that its Covenant connections can help better the
life of one of its young people.
The church recently sent out an email request to Covenanters, asking for
assistance for a 19-year-old parishioner with a rare blood disorder.
According to church staff, "The young man is in need of a bone marrow
transplant. Although our church family responded well to a bone marrow
testing drive, no match was found. Currently there is no match for him
on the National Bone Marrow Registry and his situation has become
critical. This young man is of mixed ethnicity (he is 1/2 Caucasian and
1/2 African American). Only 2 percent of those in the National Bone
Marrow Registry are of this ethnic makeup."
Hope Center is asking for prayer for the young man and is asking for
assistance in finding a donor match. The church also urges Covenanters
to consider getting tested and consider donating their bone marrow.
Although each hospital or medical center has its own policy, many offer
the test free of charge because of the small number of bone marrow
donors available.
For more information about the specific need at Hope Center, call the
church at 925-685-4673 or contact the church by email at
Hopecenter@hopecenter.cc mail. The church's address is 2275 Morello
Avenue, Pleasant Hill CA 94523.

transplants, check the Internet at www.marrow.org.
