Covenanter Signs Pro Baseball Contract
GRAND FORKS, ND (August 11, 2003) - Aaron Marsden of Hope Evangelical Covenant Church recently signed a professional baseball contract with the Colorado Rockies and has had a strong start in the minor leagues during the past eight weeks.Since being drafted in the third round of the June major league baseball free agent draft by the Rockies, Marsden has made a big impression at the minor league level. He has won four of his first five decisions for the Tri-City Dust Devils, Colorado's Class A minor league affiliate in Pasco, Washington. Thus far, Marsden has pitched 35 innings, allowing just three earned runs (an earned run average of 0.77) while striking out 26 batters during eight games.
Marsden was Big 12 Pitcher of the Year after posting a 9-3 record for the University of Nebraska's baseball team this spring. The junior two-time All Big 12 player helped the Cornhuskers to the NCAA Division I playoffs. Marsden also was named as a Verizon First Team Academic All-America by the College Sports Information Directors of America. He had a 3.95 grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) in business administration at the University of Nebraska.
