Kurt Fredrickson to Head Fuller Program
PASADENA, CA (July 11, 2003) - Kurt Fredrickson, senior pastor of Evangelical
Covenant Church in Simi Valley, California, since 1985, has been named
director/theological mentor of the doctor of ministry program and
assistant professor of ministry at Fuller Theological Seminary in Pasadena.
Fredrickson, who has resigned his pastorate, will begin his duties on
September 2. His responsibilities will include leading the largest
doctor of ministry program in the world, directing a staff of six, and
working in cooperation with those from Fuller's schools of Theology,
World Mission, and Psychology. Fredrickson called leaving his ministry
in Simi Valley, "the hardest thing I've ever done," but told his
congregation in his resignation letter, "this is my deep passion in
life: to help the church become more effective and relevant, and to
minister to church leaders who struggle with the complexities of ministry."
An ordained Covenant pastor, Fredrickson began serving at the
Evangelical Covenant Church of Simi Valley as an associate pastor in
1979 and became senior pastor there in June 1985. He holds a doctor of
ministry degree from Fuller Seminary.
Along with his pastoral tasks, Fredrickson served on the Covenant Task
Force on the Ordered Ministry and the Covenant Board of Church Growth
and Evangelism, and was program committee chair for the 1997 Annual
Meeting of the Evangelical Covenant Church in Anaheim. He has also
served on the Pacific Southwest Conference Executive Board in a variety
of roles, and has been involved locally as a chaplain for the area
police department and hospital while organizing the city's Mayor's
Prayer Breakfast.
