Covenant Women Proposes New Name, New Structure
ROSEMONT, IL (July 1, 2003) - Covenant Women Ministries is looking to rename
and transform itself, and the first step toward that end occurred Friday
(June 27).
The proposed new name - Women Ministries of the ECC was presented as
part of a new organizational constitution at Friday's 87th Annual
Meeting of Covenant Women Ministries (CWM), which took place during the
recently concluded 118th Covenant Annual Meeting. Delegates to Covenant
Annual Meeting of the ECC approved Hill for another four-year term as
executive minister of CWM on Thursday (June 26).
If the new constitution passes, CWM's Triennial events will replace the
current annual meeting as the governing body for the organization.
Conference leaders for CWM will also have more voice in decision making
in the organization. Triennial XI, "Meet Me at the River," will be held
August 12-15, 2004 in Portland, Oregon.
CWM's influence on the world around it will be changed in a different
way through its Project 2004. CWM's annual project usually focuses upon
raising funds for a service or mission work in 2002, the group raised
$125,000 to assist women and children in Africa. The 2004 project, known
as "The Big Deal," will instead help fund a three-year Project Manager
of Advocacy position. The Project Manager would focus on education and
advocacy for victims of abuse and would raise awareness and compassion
for these women.
CWM will continue its goal of providing cross-cultural opportunities for
service to Covenanters in 2004. Service projects in Cameroon and in
Europe (Germany, France and the Czech Republic).
In other news, delegates from the Covenant Annual Meeting of the ECC
approved Hill for another four-year term as executive minister of CWM on
Thursday (June 26).
CWM Annual Meeting keynote speaker Rhea Briscoe challenged attendees to
"live what they understand" as they modeled what it really means to
follow Christ as a woman in this generation. She used 1 Timothy 4 to
emphasize that God wants women "to set an example for believers in
speech, in life, in love, in faith and in purity." That included
devotion to Scripture and personal discipline that would enable
godliness to flow naturally. "When Christ takes up residence in our
life, there'd better be evidence that we live there," Briscoe said.
