Seminary Professor Honored for Bonhoeffer Book
CHICAGO, IL (June 16, 2003) - F. Burton Nelson, Ph.D., research professor of Christian ethics at North Park Theological Seminary (NPTS), recently received recognition from the Academy of Parish Clergy, Inc. for his book, The Cost of Moral Leadership: The Spirituality of Dietrich Bonhoeffer.Released in 2002 by William Eerdmans Publishing Company, The Cost of Moral Leadership was named to the Academy's List of Top Books for Parish Ministry. Nelson co-wrote the book with Geffrey Kelly, professor of systematic theology and chairperson of the department of religion at La Salle University in Philadelphia. The two combined to write A Testament to Freedom: The Essential Writings of Dietrich Bonhoeffer in 1990.
A longtime professor at NPTS in Chicago, Nelson is also a senior associate at Oxford University and former vice president of the International Bonhoeffer Society. He has served as research professor and part-time instructor since retiring in 1995. Nelson also assisted with recently-released Bonhoeffer, a 90-minute documentary film about the German pastor, theologian and resistance fighter martyred by the Nazi regime during World War II. The film is profiled in the June issue of The Covenant Companion.
