Covenant Women Propose Name Change

ROSEMONT, IL (June 16, 2003) - Covenant Women Ministries (CWM) is undergoing a restructuring, making its annual meeting a critical event in the life of the organization, says Ruth Hill, CWM's executive minister. Hill is hoping for a significant turnout to the CWM annual luncheon meeting on Friday, June 27. The meeting theme, "Soaring to New Heights," points to a proactive movement from one level to another, a movement that will add excellence to an organization that has existed for 87 years, Hill says. The event will include keynote speaker Rhea Briscoe, along with reports on current events and new initiatives.

"Our desire is to strengthen women ministries for years to come," said Hill. "Generations before us created and carried our vision forward; in the words of Paul (1 Thessalonians 4:1), we want to 'excel still more.' "

The CWM Board met from June 6-8 and finalized a draft for the new CWM constitution. New changes include: (1) a name change from Covenant Women Ministries to 'Women Ministries of the Evangelical Covenant Church;' (2) an expanded leadership team, incorporating conference presidents as advisors on the denominational level; (3) changing constituency from individual members to coordinated women ministries of local congregations. Voting on the new constitution will occur at Triennial XI, August 12-15, 2004 in Portland, Oregon.

The registration deadline for the June 27 luncheon is June 20. The cost is $27. To register, email Hill at cwm@covchurch.org or phone the CWM office at 773-907-3332.
