Omaha Covenanter Named Outstanding Teacher

OMAHA, NE (June 3, 2003) - Kathleen "Kass" Anderson of First Covenant Church in Omaha, Nebraska, was one of 15 recipients of a 2003 Alice Buffett Outstanding Teacher Award and was honored in a dinner at the Joslyn Art Museum on May 18.

Anderson, a third grade teacher at Omaha's Crestridge Magnet Center for Global Studies, earned her Bachelor's degree from Chicago's North Park University (then College) in 1980 and earned her teaching certificate from the University of Nebraska at Omaha in 1985. She has worked 18 years with Omaha Public Schools, all at Crestridge.

An Omaha native, she has been at First Covenant her entire life. She regularly participates in church activities and helps lead the church's Alpha program and grade school youth ministry. She and husband Don, a North Park alum, are the parents of three children.

The Alice Buffett Outstanding Teacher Award is named for Alice Buffett, the aunt of well-known investor Warren Buffett. Alice Buffett had been a longtime teacher for the Omaha Public Schools. Along with the Buffett Award, Anderson received $10,000 from the Alice Buffett Foundation and $500 in McDonald's gift certificates.
