Of the graduates, 22 were Master of Divinity students. There were also
three Master of Arts in Theological Studies majors, two graduates of the
Master of Arts in Christian Education program, five Master of Arts in
Christian Ministry students and one who earned a Doctor of Ministry in
Preaching.
President John Phelan presented Edward Banks Lyons with the Ahnfeldt
Medallion for maintaining a 4.0 grade point average throughout his seminary
studies - the highest grade point average in the graduating class.
Honorary degrees were conferred upon Dr. Eugene H. Peterson and former
North Park Theological Seminary professor and retired Covenant pastor Dr.
Donald H. Madvig. Peterson, longtime theology professor at Regent College
in Vancouver, British Columbia, and author of the noted translation of the
Bible's New Testament, The Message, gave the commencement address.
Dr. C. John Weborg presented Peterson for his honorary Doctor of Divinity
Degree.
Madvig, professor of biblical studies at the seminary from 1969-1974,
served as vice chair of the Committee on Bible Translation for the New
International Version bible and is an ongoing consultant for that
organization. Evangelical Covenant Church President Glenn Palmberg
presented Madvig for his honorary Doctor of Divinity Degree.
North Park Seminary Awards 33 Degrees
CHICAGO, IL (May 12, 2003) - A total of 33 individuals received degrees during
North Park Theological Seminary's 2003 Commencement and Consecration
Service last Friday in Anderson Chapel.
