Kim Walker (6-11) pitched well in the first game for NPU, holding Augustana
to seven hits as the game remained close at 1-0 until the home team scored
three times in the sixth inning. In game two, however, Augustana took
control early and manager Dan Gooris' team was limited to a Katie Ritti
single offensively.
Walker had better success in a 3-1 nonleague win over Wisconsin Lutheran
College in Milwaukee a day earlier. She threw a complete game five-hitter
in game one of a double header and struck out seven. She also drove in one
run with a single in NPU's three-run sixth inning.
Trailing 1-0, Walker's RBI single brought in Stacey Salihovich. Mindy
Eberhardt brought in Walker and Stieve with a two-run single.
In the second game, NPU trailed 8-0 after two innings, but Walker's RBI
single and a RBI single by Stieve helped the Vikings make a strong
comeback. In the seventh inning, an RBI single by Salihovich and a two-run
single by Eberhardt narrowed NPU's deficit to 8-6 before Laura Lacefield
ended the game by lining out to first base with two on and two out.
NPU is now 7-23-1 overall, 0-10 in the College Conference of Illinois and
Wisconsin. The Vikings end their season on Friday with a 3 p.m. double
header against Millikin University in nearby Skokie.
