Saturday Service Planned for C. Calvin Herriott
TURLOCK, CA (March 20, 2003) - A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Berkeley Avenue Baptist Church in Turlock for retired Covenant pastor C. Calvin Herriott who died March 10. Berkeley Avenue pastor Mike Geoghegan will officiate.Retired Covenant pastor and chaplain Luther England will conduct graveside services at Mountainview Cemetery in Oakland at 1 p.m. Friday. Herriott was 76 years old at the time of his death.
Born April 30, 1926, in Oakland, Herriott grew up Oakland's First Covenant Church. He earned his undergraduate degree from the University of California in Berkeley in 1949 and received his Master of Divinity degree from Pasadena's Fuller Theological Seminary in 1952. Shortly thereafter, he began his ministry career with Campus Crusade for Christ in Los Angeles.
Herriott returned to his hometown to serve as First Covenant's youth pastor from 1953-55 and then spent a year at North Park Theological Seminary in Chicago and a year at First Covenant Church in Billings, Montana, before becoming an ordained Covenant pastor in 1957. He continued doing youth ministry at First Covenant Church in Des Moines, Iowa, and Beulah Covenant Church in Turlock, California, during the next decade.
After serving as senior pastor of Grace Covenant Church of South San Francisco from 1968-1978, Herriott headed back to Turlock for four more years at Beulah Covenant. He had attended Berkeley Avenue Baptist Church in recent years. He stated in his ministry profile that he enjoyed team ministry, he liked to use his writing and teaching skills for the Lord and that his spiritual gifts included hospitality, helps, service and mercy.
Herriott is survived by his wife, Mary Lou, and daughters Kathryn and Nanette. Herriott is also survived by nine grandchildren.
