Tulsa (OK) Church Celebrates Facility Expansion

TULSA, OK (March 7, 2003) - Redeemer Covenant Church recently celebrated its first worship service in a new sanctuary with more than 800 in attendance in the midst of a rare snowstorm in Tulsa.

The 800-seat sanctuary is part of a 32,000-square-foot addition to an existing 28,000-square-foot building. The addition also includes a new youth and nursery wing.

The $4 million project includes $2.5 million in facility and land purchase (15 acres) and other renovations, according to Glenn Chalker, director of ministry development. Construction began in March 2001. The church's previous sanctuary, which seated 400, will now be used as a multipurpose room.

A fundraising campaign, "Preparing a Place," was begun before construction started and is now in its third year, added Chalker. About $2.4 million has already been raised and the church has used refinancing to help defray additional costs.

Redeemer Covenant Church, founded in 1987 under pastor Bill Clark, averages more than 700 in worship attendance. The congregation has used an effective Alpha program in its discipleship process and it is hoped that the added building space will further ministry in areas like Sunday school and youth ministries.

The church has invited its community to participate in an "After Construction" Spring Fling Outreach March 9. For more information about the church, its building project and other events, call Chalker at 918-299-1989 or visit the church web site at www.rcctulsa.org/building.
