Good Showing for Vikings in Track and Field

BLOOMINGTON, IL (March 3, 2003) - Lucia Abel won one event and placed fourth in another as North Park University (NPU) participated in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin indoor track and field meet Saturday at Illinois Wesleyan University.

Abel took the women's long jump title with a leap of 17 feet, 10 and one-quarter inches. Teammate Lacretia Carroll (17 feet, 3 and one-half inches) placed fifth. Abel was fourth in the triple jump at 36 feet, 4 and three-quarter inches. She also placed seventh in the 55 meter dash. The Vikings finished eighth with 29 points as Carthage College (173 one-half points) won team honors.

Ahkeem Waterford, Randle Williams and Dante Britten finished 3-4-5 in the 55 meter dash to highlight a sixth place team finish for the NPU men. Waterford placed fourth in the 200 meter dash for the Vikings, totaled 38 points as North Central College (179 points) won the team title.

Will Mejia was third in the weight throw with a toss of 50 feet, 7 and one-quarter inches and placed eighth in the shot put to highlight other top performances by the Vikings. Jerry Kosiba was sixth in the high jump and North Park's 3,200 meter relay team was fourth overall.
