Argentina Covenant Church Names New President
LA PLATA, ARGENTINA (February 9, 2003) - Patricio Valenzuela, a pastor serving a congregation in Rosario, was named president of the Covenant Church of Argentina (IPEA) during the closing session of its recently concluded annual meeting - the first in IPEA's history.
The annual meeting of the IPEA, known formally as La Iglesia del Pacto
Evangelico de Argentina, included an event entitled Temporal Center for
Christian Education, an 89-hour series of classes and practical application
opportunities. North Park Theological Seminary professor of world mission
Mark Westlind conducted classes for pastors and leaders covering Covenant
affirmations and Covenant history. Other teachers from Chile, Mexico and
Argentina taught subjects ranging from spiritual formation and mission to
evangelism and parenting.
Damaris Adame, a short-term missionary serving CIPE (the Confederacion de Iglesias del Pacto Evangelico) in the area of Christian education, coordinated the Christian education program, which included 30 participants and culminated in a three-day event for children, "Missionaries of Peace," which drew a total of 54 children.
Puppetry and mime combined with singing and Bible activities kept the children enthralled, said CIPE representative Nancy Reed. The children used their newly taught skills to evangelize others in their neighborhood. Other participants returned to their homes committed to evangelize their local communities, according to Reed.
