Swedish Covenant Hospital Given Favorable Accreditation Report

CHICAGO, IL (February 3, 2003) - Swedish Covenant Hospital has received a preliminary recommendation for continued accreditation following a review and onsite visit by representatives of the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO).

The joint commission sets standards by which healthcare quality is measured and evaluates the quality and safety of care provided in healthcare organizations.

A survey team consisting of a nurse, a physician and a healthcare administrator visited the hospital to evaluate its compliance with JCAHO standards. During the three-day survey, they toured the facilities, reviewed documents, met staff and learned more about the organization's practices in providing care. At the conclusion of the visit, the surveyors offered feedback on their findings and made recommendations for improvement. Accreditation is awarded on how well Swedish Covenant Hospital demonstrates compliance with JCAHO standards.

"The survey gave Swedish Covenant Hospital the opportunity to showcase the superb services provided by our organization," said Mark Newton, president/CEO. "While the survey lasts only three days, our commitment to safe and compassionate care is continuous."
