Language Institute Names New President

DUE WEST, SC (January 27, 2003) - The English Language Institute/China (ELIC) Board of Directors has unanimously affirmed the selection of Timothy L. Davis to serve as president beginning February 1.

The institute recruits and equips individuals for service by providing training and opportunities for North American Christians to teach English in Asia through short-term summer and one-year programs. The Evangelical Covenant Church has been a longtime supporter of the institute and its training ministries, according to Byron Amundsen of the Department of World Mission.

During the past 20 years, ELIC has mobilized more than 5,000 Christians to serve in teaching assignments across East Asia. This year, ELIC expects to send about 1,000 individuals to teach English.

Since 1992, Davis has served as a leader in a growing non-profit organization in Saint Paul, Minnesota. He developed "Project Mongolia," a teaching project in rural Mongolia that has attracted many North Americans as teachers. He spent many of his early years living in the West Indies and South Africa and more recently has traveled to East Asia, specifically Hong Kong, Mongolia and China. Davis has six years of experience working with ELIC.
