The institute recruits and equips individuals for service by providing
training and opportunities for North American Christians to teach English
in Asia through short-term summer and one-year programs. The Evangelical
Covenant Church has been a longtime supporter of the institute and its
training ministries, according to Byron Amundsen of the Department of World
Mission.
During the past 20 years, ELIC has mobilized more than 5,000 Christians to
serve in teaching assignments across East Asia. This year, ELIC expects to
send about 1,000 individuals to teach English.
Since 1992, Davis has served as a leader in a growing non-profit
organization in Saint Paul, Minnesota. He developed "Project Mongolia," a
teaching project in rural Mongolia that has attracted many North Americans
as teachers. He spent many of his early years living in the West Indies and
South Africa and more recently has traveled to East Asia, specifically Hong
Kong, Mongolia and China. Davis has six years of experience working with
ELIC.
Language Institute Names New President
DUE WEST, SC (January 27, 2003) - The English Language Institute/China (ELIC)
Board of Directors has unanimously affirmed the selection of Timothy L.
Davis to serve as president beginning February 1.
