The Vikings tallied the fifth highest number of points in the school's
history, taking a 53-19 halftime lead over the Scarlet Hawks. North Park's
62-point win was the largest margin of victory since a 98-9 win over Robert
Morris College in the 1994-95 season.
Other double-digit point scorers for NPU included Megan Slattery and Redina
Hall (with 14 points apiece), Amy Stoltz (13), Shandrel Young (11) and
Carrie Swenson (10). Swenson had a game-high 15 rebounds and six assists
while Young scored nine of her points as the Vikings raced to a 15-2 lead
in the opening 4:04 of the contest.
On Tuesday, Slattery scored a college career high of 28 points as NPU edged
visiting Millikin University 66-61.
Slattery was particularly effective midway through the second half. Leading
just 46-43, Slattery scored her team's next six points to key a 13-6 spurt.
She added two foul shots and a field goal in the final 2:40 and finished
12-for-20 in field goal tries with 12 rebounds and four steals.
Young added 16 points, including 12-of-14 foul shots for coach Jack
Surridge's team, which is now 5-6 overall, 1-1 in College Conference of
Illinois and Wisconsin play. The Vikings play a conference game against
host Illinois Wesleyan University in Bloomington at 2 p.m. Saturday.
Team Scoring Mark Set in Women Vikings Win
CHICAGO, IL (January 10, 2003) - Sara Teachout scored 18 points on 8-of-10 field
goal shooting and North Park University (NPU) set a season team scoring
mark in a 93-31 nonleague win over Illinois Institute of Technology
Thursday night.
