NPU Women's Cross Country Team Places Seventh
NAPERVILLE, IL (November 3, 2002) - Grace Conrad finished 11th overall to lead
the North Park University (NPU) women's cross country team to seventh place
at the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) cross country
meet at DuPage River Park Saturday.
Elmhurst College won the team title for the third straight year as Kathleen
Brice ran a 21:58.2 for 5,000 meters to take individual honors. Conrad was
clocked in 24:04.9.
In the men's competition, the Vikings finished eighth overall as Luke
Prince placed 53rd individually. North Central College, the host school,
won its 29th straight CCIW team title while Carthage's Hamilton Beal won
the individual championship in the 8,000-meter race.
In other North Park sports action last weekend:
- Volleyball defensive specialist Amanda Klufetos was an All-Tournament
selection as the Vikings went 1-2 in the Elmhurst Invitational. NPU is now
11-22 overall. The Vikings travel to Augustana College Tuesday in the CCIW
playoffs.
- In soccer, the men's team tied regionally ranked University of
Wisconsin-Whitewater 0-0 to finish 9-6-3 for the season. The Vikings ended
the year 2-4 in the
CCIW and did not make the conference playoffs. Coach John Born's team was
led in scoring by Andreas Olofsson, who totaled seven goals and seven
assists. NPU's record was deceiving as the Vikings played five teams ranked
in the Central Region's top 10, going 0-3-2. In women's soccer, NPU lost
3-0 to UW-Whitewater to finish 10-9 overall, tying the school record for
victories. Katie Rose had a team-high seven goals for coach Erin Leinweber.
Tamaira Fraley led the squad with six assists.
- NPU's football team lost 72-0 at Millikin University Saturday to fall
to 1-7, 0-5 in CCIW play. Josh Greunewald had 21 carries for 51 yards
rushing for the Vikings, who host Wheaton College at 1 p.m. Saturday.
