Korean Symposium Examines Prosperity, Solidarity
CHICAGO, IL (October 5, 2002) - The 12th annual North Park University Korean Symposium is under way today until 5:30 p.m. in the President's Room of Magnuson Campus Center, centered on the theme "Toward a Prosperous Chicago Korean American Community: A Factor Analysis of Korean Community Solidarity, New Demands of Social and Cultural Programs."The two-session symposium includes a presentation of research papers and panel discussion with scholars and leaders from the Korean-American community, co-sponsored by North Park's Center for Korean Studies and Korean American Community Services.
Speakers include Dr. Ho-Youn Kwon, executive director of North Park's Center for Korean Studies; Dr. Margaret Haefner, North Park University provost; and Dr. Tong-He Koh, chair of the academic committee and board of advisors. During the symposium luncheon, Syn Duk Choi, professor emeritus at Ewha Women's University and former president of the Korean Sociological Association, will speak on "Culture of Aging in Korea: Its Past and Present." A closing ceremony features Dr. Kwon and Dr. Jin H. Kim, president of Korean American Community Services.
The Center for Korean Studies was established in January 1991 to promote Korean Studies and coordinate the use of resources for Korean programs at the North Park campus and elsewhere in the United States.
