CRC Awards $11,500 in Scholarships to Employees' Dependents
CHICAGO, IL (September 15, 2002) - Covenant Retirement Communities (CRC) has awarded seven post-high school scholarships totaling $11,500 to dependents of its employees. The scholarships are part of CRC's ongoing commitment to help employees' dependents pursue higher education.Winners of this year's scholarship are:
- Emily Estrella, daughter of Amelita Estrella, a registered nurse at Covenant Village of Northbrook - awarded $2,500 to pursue a degree in nursing.
- Gregory Feitt, son of Ann Marie Feitt, social services director at The Samarkand - awarded $2,500 to attend Mary Washington College in Virginia where he will pursue a degree in law enforcement and criminal justice.
- Britta Walker, daughter of Karen Walker, marketing director at Covenant Village of Turlock - awarded $2,500 to attend North Park University in Chicago where she will pursue a degree in secondary education with a specialty in English literature.
- Janine Johnson, daughter of Ruth Johnson, a registered nurse at Covenant Village of Northbrook, - awarded $1,500 to attend Covenant Bible College in Ecuador and then North Park University in Chicago to complete a degree in elementary education.
- Michael Govern, son of Rita Govern at Covenant Village of Florida - awarded $1,250 to pursue a degree in broadcast journalism at the University of Central Florida.
- Devon Taylor, son of Ginger Taylor, a campus nurse at Covenant Village of Turlock - awarded $800 to attend California Polytechnic State University where he will pursue a degree in the field of biological sciences.
- Nina Silva, daughter of Elza Silva, certified nursing assistant at Covenant Village of Turlock - awarded $500 to attend Modesto Junior College for two years and then transfer to California State University where she will pursue a degree in liberal studies and earn her teaching credentials.
A selection committee received 33 applications nationwide and based awards on educational and career pursuits consistent with CRC values, an essay demonstrating a defined educational/career goal and the student's involvement in extracurricular activities.
Scholarships are generated from earnings from an endowed scholarship fund and other generous sources within Covenant Retirement Communities.
One of the nation's largest not-for-profit retirement community organizations, Covenant Retirement Communities administers 15 retirement communities nationwide on behalf of the Board of Benevolence of the Evangelical Covenant Church.
