Hinsdale Man Wins Covenant Point Triathlon
IRON RIVER, MI (August 6, 2002) - Rich Lofgren, a member of the Evangelical
Covenant Church in Hinsdale, Illinois, won the fourth annual triathlon
sponsored by Covenant Point Bible Camp Sunday.
Lofgren's time of 2 hours, 35 minutes and 43 seconds was fueled by an
especially strong time on the 25-mile bike portion of event. His bike time
of 1 hour, 22 minutes and 11 seconds was the best among all 11 individual
competitors and eight teams.
Don Hodgkinson, a member of Ravenswood Evangelical Covenant Church in
Chicago and the 2000 winner, finished second with a time of 2:38.23. Chris
Sanderson of Community Church in Boulder Junction, Wisconsin, placed third
in 2:39.57.
The top team, comprised of staff members Jane Frasier, Mat Klemp and Sarah
Hook, finished with a 2:38.33 clocking and repeated their 2001 first-place
team finish. The family team of John and Beth Fredrickson and daughter
Rachel, members of the Evangelical Covenant Church, Milwaukee, Wisconsin,
finished second in 2:39.19 and a staff team of Dustin Johnson, Craig Nelson
and Kelly Johnson finished third in 2:47.08.
Covenant Point's event raised more than $10,000 to provide programming and
accessible facilities for disabled and handicapped campers and guests at
the camp. Participants enter as individuals or teams and complete a
half-mile swim, 25-mile bike race and 10 kilometer run.
