New Building to be Dedicated in Johannesburg

JOHANNESBURG, SOUTH AFRICA (July 30, 2002) - The South Africa Chinese Covenant Church (SACCC) will dedicate its newly purchased building during a service of celebration at 3 p.m. Sunday, September 8.

The occasion will also celebrate the congregation's seventh anniversary, according to David and Judy Dolan, coordinators for Chinese ministry in the Department of World Mission of the Evangelical Covenant Church.

"Besides ministering to those who speak Mandarin and have immigrated from China, Taiwan, Hong Kong or elsewhere, the church has a strong vision to minister to English-speaking Chinese in the community," the Dolans stated in a recent ministry update to Covenant News Service. "A young South African couple, who eventually hope to minister in Taiwan, will be working at SACCC in English ministry for two years while they are raising their support for missionary service."

The SACCC congregation seeks to plant a new church in the Chinatown area of Johannesburg, the Dolans report. "Most Chinese immigrants find their way to this part of the city as they arrive in South Africa for the first time," they observe. "Please pray that God would continue to touch the hearts of many Chinese immigrants as they move into South Africa."

The Dolans also request prayer for a Covenant Women Ministries team that will visit next January to provide training and conduct a Vacation Bible School event for English-speaking children of the Johannesburg community.
