Foster City (MI) Church Celebrates Centennial

FOSTER CITY, MI (July 17, 2002) - Mission Covenant Church of Foster City celebrated 100 years of service last weekend (July 14) with Central Conference Supt. Herbert M. Freedholm preaching at the Sunday morning worship.

The "2000 Years of Love, 100 Years of Praise" festivities began with a campfire July 12. On July 13 the congregation hosted a dinner and program that documented the church's Swedish heritage, according to Pastor Lloyd Nelson.

Mission Covenant Church of Foster City is located in a resort town in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Currently, the congregation averages nearly 100 in worship attendance. Originally known as the Foster City Mission Society, the church was chartered in 1902 by 12 people and was reorganized in 1909 as a Mission Covenant Church (now known as the Evangelical Covenant Church).
