Maple Valley (WA) Covenanter Killed in Plane Crash

ANCHORAGE, AK (July 15, 2002) - Dan Maret, a member of Cedarcreek Covenant Church in Maple Valley, Washington, died last Friday when the small plane in which he was a passenger crashed en route to an Alaskan fishing expedition, Covenant News Service has learned.

Civil Air Patrol pilots located the small plane in the Chigmit Mountains near Port Alsworth, according to the Anchorage Daily News. The plane left Anchorage headed for Rainbow Point Lodge on Lake Iliamna, 220 miles southwest of Anchorage. Three others in the plane, including the pilot, also died. Maret was in one of two planes headed to Lake Iliamna as part of a senior center fishing trip. The other plane, carrying five people, arrived safely.

Cedarcreek Covenant is a church plant with approximately 130 in worship attendance located 30 minutes southeast of Seattle. The church recently was received into membership during the 117th Annual Meeting of the Evangelical Covenant Church in Keystone, Colorado. Maret and his wife, Eilene, have been involved in the church's activities since the early months of its founding. Eilene is involved in children's ministry. A daughter, Becca, and son-in-law, Rick Bowen, have also been involved in planting the church.
