Holmgren Emcees Outreach Dinner
MERCER ISLAND, WA (June 23, 2002) - About 300 people attended a Seattle
Seahawk
Outreach event at Mercer Island Covenant Church June 11 as Seattle
Seahawks
Coach Mike Holmgren emceed the dinner/presentation.
Holmgren, a member of Mercer Island Covenant Church, agreed to
participate
with the help of the church's Men's Commission. Mike's w
ife, Kathy, is
parish nurse at the church.
The Seahawks donated numerous items for the event, which was presented
as
an opportunity for parishioners to invite their non-Christian friends,
neighbors and co-workers to church. Seattle Seahawks quarterbacks coach
Jim
Zorn, a past quarterback for the team, participated in a time of
testimony,
interviewing the team's current quarterbacks Trent Dilfer and Matt
Hasselbeck about their Christian faith and their
athletic careers.
"Mike (Holmgren) has done events like this at San Francisco when he
coached
there, but this is the first time we've done it here," said Dan Miller.
"The members invited people and it gave them a chance to share the
gospel.
And people are already asking them if this is going to happen next year.
It
was so low-key, but everyone loved the dinner."
