Funeral Service on Saturday for Timothy Sporrong
CHICAGO, IL (June 5, 2002) - A funeral Mass will be said at 7 p.m. Saturday for 51-year-old Timothy Sporrong, a former Covenant pastor who died suddenly Monday afternoon at the University of Chicago Hospital.The service will take place at Old St. Patrick's Church located at 700 W. Adams St. in Chicago. Three church parking lots are available - two across from the church on Des Plaines and one a block north of the church at the corner of Des Plaines and Monroe streets.
A wake will be held from 4 to 9 p.m. Friday at Cooney Funeral Home, 3552 N. Southport, in Chicago.
Sporrong was born September 30, 1950, in Oberlin, Kansas, the son of Algot A. and Jeanette I. Sporrong. He received a Bachelor's degree in political science from San Jose State University and his Master of Divinity degree in pastoral ministry from North Park Theological Seminary in Chicago. He was ordained in 1979 in Fort Collins, Colorado.
He served one year (1974-75) as a youth pastor at Berry Memorial Methodist Church in Chicago. He was intern pastor at Monroe Evangelical Covenant Church in Monroe, Washington, from 1975-77 and served as pastor at the Monroe church from 1978 until 1984. Sporrong served as pastor of Libertyville Covenant Church in Libertyville, Illinois, from 1984 to 1990 when he accepted the position as senior pastor of North Park Covenant Church in Chicago, where he served approximately four years.
He was a supervisor with the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services at the time of his death.
Sporrong is survived by his wife, Pattie Wigand-Sporrong; two children, Annalisa and Isaac; two brothers, a sister and their families.
