Northwest Conference Names First Permanent CWM Director
ROSEAU, MN (May 24, 2002) - Toni Schwabe of Forest Lake Covenant Church in
Wyoming, Minnesota, has been elected to a three-year term as the Northwest
Conference Director of Covenant Women Ministries (CWM), the first permanent
director of its kind in CWM history.
Schwabe was elected during the conference's CWM annual meeting in April as
130 women attended the event held at the Evangelical Covenant Church of
Roseau. Ruth Hill, CWM executive minister, said that the Northw
est Conference fully funds this new position through its CWM, giving the
conference a rare opportunity to do exciting ministries in the future.
"Toni's presence in the Northwest Conference has produced very tangible
results in strengthening women's ministries," said Hill. "Women are
receiving the training and resources needed to become an effective tool of
the church, as well as uniting them for broader ministry."
Schwabe served three years as CWM conference director as a pilot project,
said Hill. After the conference was able to fully fund the project, the
conference CWM decided to support it as a permanent position. During her
pilot project years, Schwabe traveled to a variety of sites for training
sessions. She has been a key liaison for Coordinators Summits, which were
introduced two years ago by Hill and presented at all of the denomination's
conferences and regions in North America.
The Northwest Conference CWM has been a leader in innovation and its
leaders have proven dedicated on a variety of service levels, Hill notes.
Its previous board president Ginny Roesler and its current president,
Rachel Peterson, will travel to Tajikistan and Afghanistan on a mission
trip in June, along with Covenant World Relief Director Jim Sundholm.
