Covenant Chaplain Nominated for Top Chaplain Honor
SEMBAWANG, Singapore (April 26, 2002) - Lt. Cmdr. Jeff Saville, a chaplain in the Logistics Group Western Pacific, is the Pacific Fleet nominee for the Military Chaplains Association's "Navy Chaplain of the Year" award.Saville, a Covenanter, was named the Pacific Fleet chaplain of the year in 2001 for the way in which he has helped foster a service mentality with Logistics Group Western Pacific. The command unit has taken top honors for community service in its area for three straight years, according to a Navy News Service report.
The Community Relations Program run by his office won a Navy-wide competition called the "Good Neighbor Flagship Award" for small overseas commands. Saville said that the program coordinates "nearly 2,000 sailors and Marines passing through Singapore to perform more than 8,000 hours of volunteer work with approximately 1,500 disadvantaged children and elderly folk."
Saville has served in the Navy since 1992, with stops in Mississippi, London and San Diego. He was ordained by the Covenant in 1989 after earning a Master of Divinity degree from Fuller Theological Seminary in Pasadena, California. His home church is Bethesda Covenant Church in New York.
