Bloomington to Celebrate 50 Years of Ministry
BLOOMINGTON, MN (April 10, 2002) - Bloomington Covenant Church in Bloomington
will celebrate its 50th anniversary May 5 with a sloppy joe lunch and
reminiscence entitled "Proclaiming, Exalting His Name."
Retired pastor Craig Nelson will deliver the morning message during the
Sunday worship service. Lunch will follow and Nancy Larson, Bloomington
Covenant's first long-term missionary to Ecuador, will reflect on the
church's beginnings.
Bloomington Covenant began its ministry with meetings at the home of
Willard and Laura Bondhus. The congregation later met in a rented movie
theater before building its own permanent structure. Greg Fondell is senior
pastor of the church, which averages more than 300 in worship
attendance based on 2001 Covenant Yearbook statistics.
The church's adult choir will present "A German Requiem" with the help of a
33-piece professional orchestra on April 21 as part of the 50th anniversary
celebration schedule. The choir has been invited to sing at the Annual
Meeting of the Swedish Covenant Church in Stockholm, Sweden, June 14-16.
They will sing with the Salem Covenant Church choir of New Brighton,
Minnesota.
