Ecuador-CBC Purchases Property for New Campus
LA MERCED, ECUADOR (March 21, 2002) - Covenant Bible College-Ecuador (CBC) Tuesday completed purchase of 7.5 acres of property for a new facility that is expected to be ready for classes in the fall of 2003, according to Marlene Carlson, executive director of the CBC Foundation. The facility, which includes eight buildings, will provide a permanent home for CBC-Ecuador, which was founded in 2000. The purchase price is $425,000, according to Carlson. Rehabilitation to prepare the facility to accept students are expected to cost approximately $500,000.
Ecuadorian artist Endara Crow, who died five years ago, previously owned the property. The Banco Central (located in Quito) eventually came into possession of the property and CBC-Ecuador submitted an offer in early March.
Work groups from Covenant churches are already assisting to prepare the campus for students next year. A group from Glen Ellyn Covenant Church in Glen Ellyn, Illinois, recently returned from Ecuador after constructing 67 beds for the new campus. Covenant Women Ministries earlier on sent a work group to the current CBC-Ecuador campus to make curtains and provide funds for books for the school's library.
CBC-Ecuador currently is operating at maximum capacity with 39 students on campus. The new campus will allow for more than 60 individuals when construction is finished.
