Florida Church to Celebrate 25 Years
NOKOMIS, FL (March 18, 2002) - Community Covenant Church of Spanish Lakes, a congregation located in a 400-unit senior mobile home park, will celebrate its 25th anniversary Sunday, according to Pastor David R. Ladre.Community Covenant uses the mobile home park clubhouse for worship services. The congregation has about 80 in average worship attendance, including six that have been at the church for 25 years. The six will be honored Sunday.
Originally started in 1975 under pastor Harold Cohen, Community Covenant was received by the denomination in 1977 and the first members joined in November of that year. James Chard was a key figure in the church's history, having served as pastor from 1978 through 1997.
The 81-year-old Ladre has been the senior pastor since January 1998. He served in the United Church of Christ until his retirement, but grew up with knowledge of the Evangelical Covenant Church. He used to attend the youth group of the Evangelical Covenant Church of Ridgway, Pennsylvania.
