Czech Seminary Receives High Marks in Evaluation
PRAGUE, CZECH REPUBLIC (February 26, 2002) - The Evangelical Theological Seminary (ETS) of Prague received the highest marks possible on a recent Czech Schools Inspection sanctioned by the Czech government. The inspection is required of all schools of higher learning above high
school level and involves one week of visits by educational inspectors.
Fred Prudek, a missionary to the Czech from the Evangelical Covenant Church (ECC), teaches practical theology at the school, along with serving as vice president of fund raising and public relations. Karel Taschner is the president of ETS, which began in 1991 as an alternative to the state-run seminary at Charles University. ETS of Prague seeks to be an evangelical seminary for all Czech denominations.
One denomination, the Cirkev bratrske, already partners with the ECC through the International Federation of Free Evangelical Churches (IFFEC) to fully support the seminary. North Park Theological Seminary is also cooperating with ETS through the IFFEC. About 50 students are enrolled in the full-time program at ETS and about 60 in the extension program. The school has
only three full-time faculty, but uses more than 25 part-time faculty.
"ETS is the primary evangelical seminary in the Czech Republic," Prudek said. "It is strategic to the future of the church in the Czech Republic and, therefore, hopefully to the entire society."
