Covenant Skater Records Her Best Olympic Finish

SALT LAKE CITY, UT (February 19, 2002) - Amy Sannes of Salem Covenant Church in New Brighton, Minnesota, had her best finish in an Olympic race, placing 14th in the 1,000-meter speedskating event at the 2002 Winter Olympics Sunday.

Sannes was clocked in 1:15.09 seconds in the 1,000. Her previous best in the Olympics was a 26th place finish in the 500 during the 1998 Winter Olympics in Nagano, Japan.

As good as Sannes was Sunday, teammates Chris Witty and Jennifer Rodriguez were even better - they won the gold and bronze medals in the event respectively. Witty of West Allis, Wisconsin, set a world record with a winning time of 1:13.83 and Rodriguez of Miami, Florida, finished third in 1:14.24.
