Wendell Helps Team Advance to Hockey Semifinals
WEST VALLEY CITY, UT (February 16, 2002) - So far so good for the women's hockey fortunes of Krissy Wendell of Redeemer Covenant Church in Brooklyn Park, Minnesota.
She tallied an assist for the United States in a 5-0 victory over Finland during qualifying round action in the 2002 Winter Olympics Saturday. Wendell's squad is now 3-0 after the qualifying round and advances to the women's hockey tournament semifinals. The team has won 34 straight games, including an exhibition tour around North America this winter.
The U.S. team has outscored its three opponents 27-1 during the Olympics. Wendell had two assists in a 12-1 victory over China earlier in the week. She had her lone goal in a 10-0 victory over Germany to open the Olympics.
Minnesota Covenanters Amy Sannes (speedskating) and Tasha Nelson (slalom skiing) will compete next week. Sannes, of Salem Covenant Church in New Brighton, has already competed in the 500-meter women's speedskating event.
