Michigan Church Plant Off to Good Start
NOVI, MI (January 23, 2002) - Christ Covenant Church, a church plant helped by Faith Covenant Church in Farmington Hills, Michigan, is off to a good start with 140 individuals attending the first preview service January 13.
Christ Covenant launched its work last fall in this community of 50,000 located near many suburbs around Detroit, according to Great Lakes Conference Associate Supt. Larry
Sherman A private preview service drew 170 people, including some from Faith Covenant,
before pastor Nathan Pawl's congregation had its first open preview service. The church anticipates a grand opening celebration this fall.
Pawl served four years as pastor at Harbert Community Church in Harbert, Michigan. Conference and denominational representatives explored Pawl's interest in planting a church. A core group of more than 60 people helped with the beginning stages of the church plant. Pawl hopes that community groups of 30-50 people eventually can operate as mini-churches in various geographic areas.
"Faith Covenant has been praying and working for this church plant for seven years," said Pawl. "It seems to be an issue of God's timing. Things are exploding here (evangelistically) and we've walked into a core group that is very excited, extremely talented and willing to do what it takes to reach people in the Kensington Valley region. And Faith Covenant has been phenomenal in supporting us."
