North Park Upsets Wheaton in Conference Play
CHICAGO, IL (January 20, 2002) - Tyrone Hueston scored 24 points and North Park University shot 52 percent from the field to upset 14th rated Wheaton College 91-81 Saturday night at the North Park gymnasium.The Vikings moved to 7-7 overall, 2-1 in College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin play by making 17-of-25 second half field goals, breaking a 36-36 tie at half-time. Hueston was a big part of North Park's hot shooting night, making 8-of-13 shots, including 3-of-4 from the 3-point line. He also had seven assists.
Jason Collins added 20 points and was 4-of-7 from the 3-point line. He had two three-point baskets as North Park went on an 11-0 run to overcome a 41-38 deficit early in the second half.
Wheaton (10-4, 0-3) got within seven points, 66-59, with 7:23 left, but the Vikings kept the Thunder from getting any closer, making 12-of-14 foul shots in the final 3:23. North Park had been shooting around 60 percent from the free throw line before Saturday's game.
Larry Moore had 13 rebounds as North Park had a 36-30 team rebound advantage. Maurice Vaughn added 18 points for the Vikings, which host North Central at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday. Will Landry led Wheaton with 18 points. The Thunder had been rated as high as seventh in the d3hoops.com rankings this season.
